Few Examples where IMPACT has made a genuine IMPACT in the lives of patients
 

Breast Cancer

A 45 years old female was diagnosed with Cancer of the Breast at the time of discharge of her husband who had undergone a Total Laryngectomy for cancer of the larynx. She had barely the money for her husband's surgery; when the news of cancer devastated her and she showed readiness to die without any treatment. IMPACT helped her get operated totally free of cost. Operated in Jan 2004.

A 65 years old widow working in a temple was diagnosed with Cancer of the Breast. Her surgery was totally sponsored by her community's trust and IMPACT and her family had not to bear any cost of treatment. Operated in May 2006.
   

A 65 years old widow and ex teacher of a School, with just one daughter, was diagnosed with a Stage III B cancer of the Breast. IMPACT helped her in her surgery and chemotherapy with her neighbours chipping in with social & emotional support. Operated in July 2003.

   
Head & Neck Cancer
Laryngeal Cancer - Cancer of the Voice Box
Many patients with cancer of the larynx have to undergo a Total Laryngectomy i.e. removal of their whole voice box. This results in total loss of speech - devastating result for all patients. Fortunately patients can communicate with the help of an Electrolarynx or by fitting of a Tracheo Esophageal Voice Prosthesis. A good Electrolarynx costs upwards of Rs 30,000/- (@$ 700) and a Voice Prosthesis costs Rs 12,000/- (@ $250). Many patients are not able to afford such devices. IMPACT helped a few patients with such devices, changing their whole outlook towards life and making their lives more meaningful.
   

A 51 years old male operated in September of 1999, is a tremendous fighter, operated thrice later for recurrences. IMPACT paid for two of his valves and gave him partial help for two of his last surgeries.

   

A 59 years old male patient from Rajasthan, IMPACT sponsored his TEP valve and later also gave him an electrolarynx free of cost. Operated in Jan. 2005.

   

A 55 years old male patient from a small town near Dwarka, IMPACT helped him with his TEP Prosthesis after his Total Laryngectomy. Operated in April 2005.

   
A 51 years old gentleman, working at a railway crossing near Viramgam, Gujarat, IMPACT sponsored his TEP Prosthesis as a result of which he was able to communicate. He could get on with his job in the railways and is fine. Operated in Dec 2003.
   

An ordinary farmer from a village near Porbandar, IMPACT sponsored his first TEP Prosthesis partially and second TEP Prosthesis totally and is living a happy self dependent life. Operated in April 2003.

   

This patient had undergone a Total Laryngo pharyngo esophagectomy with Gastric Pull Up in 1994. She lived a silent life till 1998 unable to communicate with others as she had no money to buy an electrolarynx. Her whole life changed when Dr Stimson Schantz, Associate Attending Head & Neck Surgeon at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA, sent an Optivox Electrolarynx, after coming to know of her plight from Dr Kinner Shah, on his return from the same institute in May 1998. Her quality of life underwent a complete change and the smile returned to her face. She is still using that same electrolarynx. IMPACT also helped in getting her electrolarynx repaired twice as she didn't have the resources for that too.

   

A rickshaw driver with cancer of the Right Buccal Mucosa and Retro Molar Trigone and tobacco chewer. IMPACT helped him in getting his surgery done at highly subsidized rates. Operated in April 2004.

   
A ordinary telephone booth operator from Jamnagar suffering from Cancer of the Left Bucco Alveolar Sulcus as a result of his chewing of tobacco. He underwent Left Marginal Mandibulectomy with Wide Excision of Buccal Mucosa and Modified Neck Dissection. IMPACT helped him in getting his surgery done at highly subsidized rates. Operated in December 2004.
 
   

A 38 years old patient with cancer of the left half of tongue and floor of mouth. The left half of his tongue, lower jaw was removed (Commando Operation) and reconstructed with a Pectoralis Major Myocutaneous Flap in September 2005. IMPACT helped him in getting his surgery done at highly subsidized rates.

   
Just 28 years old patient from Rajasthan came with advanced disease. He hardly had any money with him. IMPACT helped him in getting his surgery done at highly subsidized rates in September 2005. Unfortunately died of Lung Metastases in May 2006.
   
   
Just 38 years old, underwent surgery for cancer of the tongue in December 2004 but developed a fast recurrence and later died in 2005.IMPACT helped him in meeting his surgery's expenses.
   
A 51 years old single lady from Jamnagar was diagnosed with an uncommon cancer involving her left base of tongue. She underwent Wide Excision of her Base Tongue Cancer through a Mandible Swing Approach. IMPACT helped her in meeting her surgery's expenses. Operated in May 2006.

A 46 years old lady coming from a very simple background was diagnosed with an uncommon cancer involving the right Retromolar Trigone. Her whole surgery was supported by another trust and IMPACT. Operated in Jan. 2006.
